About this project
What it is
Deutschland Kompass is a guide through German bureaucracy — for everyone living here or just arrived. We break official procedures into clear steps: address registration, renting, cars, self-employment, having a baby, insurance.
On top of the guides there are free tools: calculators (gross-to-net, health insurance, parental allowance, car import) and generators for standard documents that create PDFs right in your browser.
The project is private and independent. We are not a government body and are not affiliated with any German authority.
Our principles
- ✓ Primary sources only. Every figure in our calculators and every procedure is based on official sources — laws, ministries, authorities. Below each tool you find the sources and the date of the last verification.
- ✓ No tracking. We use no analytics services and no tracking cookies. Calculations and PDF generation run in your browser — the data you enter is not sent to any server. Details in the privacy policy.
- ✓ Everything is free. Guides, calculators, templates and document generators are free and will stay free.
- ✓ Honest buttons. We only show what actually exists: if your municipality has no online submission, we do not pretend it does.
How we earn
Some links to services (insurance, banks, price comparisons) are affiliate links: if you sign up through them, we may receive a commission. The price does not change for you.
Affiliate links are always marked (rel="sponsored" plus a note on the page). Commissions do not influence the content: we link to free official resources without affiliate programmes just the same.
What we do not do
We do not provide legal, tax or insurance advice (German RDG, StBerG). Our content is general information; binding decisions are made by the authorities alone, and for individual cases a lawyer, tax advisor or insurance broker can help.
We do not file applications on your behalf and have no access to your cases at any authority.
