Max recommends:

Probation is a stop factor: banks want to see the contract after Probezeit. Applying after 7 months of employment instead of 4 raised my approved limit by half.

Ask the purpose question first: for holidays and gadgets credit is a bad habit, for furniture after a move or a work car a tool. German rates allow it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much loan can I afford?

The banking rule: all debt payments under 35–40 percent of net income. Your own rule should be stricter: calculate from net minus rent and fixed costs.

Will I even get a loan with a residence permit?

Banks compare permit length with loan term: a 2-year permit and a 5-year loan is a frequent rejection reason. Permanent residence and Blue Card work almost like a passport.

Does a second borrower improve my chances?

Yes: a second borrower or guarantor with stable income and a secure permit clearly raises approval odds — especially with a short residence permit. Both are then jointly liable for the full instalment.

Why do probation applications fail?

Probation means two-week dismissal notice — unstable income to a bank. Most banks wait it out; applying during probation near-guarantees a rejection plus an inquiry trace.
