Legal Protection Insurance (Rechtsschutzversicherung)
In Germany, courts and lawyers are extraordinarily expensive — a single lawyer's letter can cost €300. This insurance covers all legal costs, whether you are suing someone or being sued.
1. What is it and when do I need it?
- •Purpose: Covers lawyer's fees, court fees, and expert witness costs.
- •Timing: Get it before a dispute arises. The policy does not cover conflicts that have already started.
2. How much does it cost and where to get it?
- •Price: Depends on chosen modules. Full package around €200–350 per year (€15–30 per month).
- •Where: Via comparison portals or through an independent insurance broker.
3. Module selection (Checklist)
- Privat (Private life): online disputes, buying defective goods
- Beruf (Work): wrongful dismissal, unpaid wages
- Verkehr (Traffic): disputes after accidents, unfair fines
- Wohnen (Housing): disputes with landlord over deposit or rent increases
4. Common mistakes
Achtung / Warning: Buying insurance "at the last minute". Legal protection policies almost always have a waiting period (Wartezeit) of around 3 months. You cannot buy the policy today and sue your employer tomorrow.
5. Done!
Congratulations — the Insurance section is complete! You now have a full protection package.
