The household is calculated as a whole: partner income counts. But with low total income a top-up is possible — run the numbers through the official calculator, do not guess.
What savings may I keep? ▾
Since 1 July 2026 an age-based allowance applies to each person in the household: €5,000 up to 30, €10,000 from 31, €12,500 from 41 and €20,000 from 51; unused allowances transfer to other members (§ 12 Absatz 2 SGB II). The former grace period for savings is gone. Retirement provision, one reasonable car per employable person and an owner-occupied house up to 140 m² or flat up to 130 m² stay untouched (§ 12 Absatz 1 SGB II).
How exactly does it affect my permit? ▾
