The offices that find out automatically are behind us. What begins now is the zone where nobody finds out until you write yourself — and that is the part that costs people the most.
Health insurance, pension and chamber after closing
Your health insurance status does not change by itself. While the fund still lists you as self-employed, contributions run at that rate.

WHAT TO DO
› Details and tips
I closed in May and the fund kept taking self-employed contributions until August. Nobody was at fault: I had simply sent the fund no paperwork.
Send the notice to your fund the same day the deregistration confirmation arrives. Every month of delay is a full self-employed contribution you then have to argue about.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why does the fund keep charging as before? ▾
Because its basis is your status, not an entry at another authority. Until a notice of change reaches it, the previous classification applies — with self-employed contributions, which are calculated differently from employee contributions.
What goes with the notice to the fund? ▾
The deregistration confirmation showing the cessation date and evidence of the new situation: employment contract, employment agency decision, or proof of study. The fund reclassifies you on that basis.
Does chamber membership end with the closure? ▾
Membership attaches to running the business, so cessation removes its basis. The contribution year is often counted in full, though, so an invoice for the current year may arrive after closure — not an error but the method of calculation.
What about pension insurance? ▾
That depends on whether you were subject to compulsory insurance or paid voluntarily. On moving into employment the employer takes over; voluntary payments deserve a deliberate stop rather than being forgotten.
